A Turkish delight
As a Sikorsky Customer Support Centre Harrods Aviation are often asked to assist customers in the field or provide advice on prospective purchases.
In this case we were asked to review a pre-purchase report written by a third party on a S-76C+ which had identified a possible issue with an engine. Following our review and advice the customer requested that we inspect the aircraft at its base in Turkey and, with the OEM in attendance, provide a report specifically on the defect.
After a somewhat hairy drive out to the aircraft’s Turkish base we inspected the engine and very quickly identified the problem. Unfortunately our findings meant the aircraft was no longer airworthy and therefore could not be flown from its base for maintenance. The customer decided that, despite the costs involved, the best course of action for the aircraft was to ship it back to Harrods Aviation in the UK so that the work could be undertaken professionally to correct the problem.
The new owner arranged for the aircraft to be moved by road to the docks and from there it was shipped to the UK. Since that time the aircraft and engine have been inspected again, all defects rectified and the aircraft cleaned and readied for sale by Harrods Aviation.
